Elementary Spectacle

ShanghART is pleased to present the “Elementary Spectacle”, a collaborative exhibition by Shi Qing (b.1969) & Shao Yi (b.1967) with their latest installation works. As the first collaboration of the two artists, the title “Elementary Spectacle” originated from the concept of Shi Qing who alternated the shape of construction material and tried to rearrange the inner relationship of the looking of the world, whereas Shao Yi’s installation works are related with traditional mark of witchcraft and which adds the uncertainty. The exhibition will open from 4 July to 20 August.
 
Shi Qing, born in 1969 in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, lives and works in Beijing. Shi Qing’s research based creative process is quite unique amongst Chinese artists today. His work has constantly evolved in content and form. His explorations include the psychology of symbolism and ritual, the social contexts of personal history, urban politics, global economic histories and their effect of culture, and the relationship on Chinese recent history of globalization. A selection of major exhibitions in which Shi Qing has participated includes: Santa Fe Biennale (U.S.A, 2008), Guangzhou Triennial (China, 2005), Prague Biennale (Czech Republic, 2005), Busan Biennale (Korea, 2004). 
 
Shao Yi was born in Hang Zhou in 1967, he lives and works in Hang Zhou and Shanghai. Shao Yi also studied at Hangzhou Academy, Shao Yi, like most people of his generation, has watched as people become more and more alone, cut off from traditional family ties, living in anonymous apartment blocks, shopping incognito in supermarkets and malls, hemmed into a virtual world where the TV and the internet are one’s only companions. Recent exhibitions include "Light Fogging" Shao Yi Solo Exhibition, BizArt Center,shanghai (2008).
