International Artists Group Show
by 99 Degree Art Center (Shanghai)
Location: 99 Degree Art Center
Date: 19 Nov - 26 Dec 2010

In the end of 2010, 99° Art Center will present "International Artists Group Show". Four artists participated include Taiwan artist Chiu Hsiente who is very active on the world scene in recent 20 years; the other three artists are Taiwanese artist Li Suntta long sojourn in France, the Russian artist Igor Bitman and the French artist Gérard Altmann.

Chiu Hsien-te is good at using watercolour to create his works. Tibet has been at the heart of his works for more than two decade. Chiu have composed very unique watercolors applying the ideas of oil painting and ink-wash techniques to his creation with blending eastern flavor and western aesthetic. At the same time he has expanded the limits of scale in watercolor paintings that often exceed 200 centimeters in size. After recent solo show on October in Paris, Chiu will participate in the ART ASIA in Mimami on the first of December until 5th December.

Li Suntta acknowledges that his inspiration is derived from specific images he has seen; that is, from specific static or flowing picture images. Li’s work finds its source from the products of today's contemporary culture, and frequently indicates its theme as the relationship between fabric and body. His work also suggests new implications and insights that revolve around these ideas.

The Russian painter Igor Bitman, graduated from Repin Academy of Fine Arts, resides in France nowadays . There’s a combination of traditional painting techniques and chiaroscuro effects in his expression. Besides the classical touches, in his paintings, Bitman adopted a few changes on the relationship of objects by sacrificing the accurate figures. Stretched bodies become more quiet and serene, giving the piece a stabilized and harmonized feeling with steady colors.

The French painter Gérard Altmann born in 1920 is good at expressing colours outdoors, while he emphasizes the volume and texture of any objects. Over the past 20 years, the french island Belle Île has become his muse. With the spread of his works, this island where Claude Monet lived before gradually became a well-known tourist attraction like Taihiti. In 2007 Mortais Museum held "Retrospective on 50 years of Painting" for Almann to celebrate his 50’s.
