Karen Chau, the creator of Ni Hao, Kai-lan, is a first generation Chinese-American born in New York.  She grew up in Dallas, Texas, and Orange County, California.   Chau majored in Studio Art at the University of California, Irvine, and minored in Digital Art.  Prior to Ni Hao, Kai-lan, she worked as a graphic designer.  Ni Hao, Kai-lan was inspired by Chau's childhood experiences, and her relationship with her grandfather.  Chau hopes that this series will promote cultural awareness and celebrate the best of the Chinese and American cultures. She has received the OCA artistic achievement award, and the NAMIC vision award.
