For the Future
by Z-Art Center
Location: Z-art Center
Artist(s): ZHONG Biao
Date: 30 Apr - 4 Jul 2010

For more than a decade, Zhong Biao has been constructing spectacular art scenes one after another with his surreal imagination and superior creativity, shocking the contemporary art circles again and again. Today, his whole new work – For the Future – is to be presented in Zhangjiang.

Since 2008, Zhong has been seeking for breakthrough in creation concepts, and a unique philosophic concept silently emerged in his new works, which originated from his individual recognition of time and space – “The past, the present and the future is a pre-existent whole, and our passing only enters a part of the whole.” Based on this recognition, Zhong reconstructed the comprehensive means of expression related with surrealism and pop art for the last decade, and formed his most amazing aesthetic language by far.

In Zhong’s new works, time and space are placed side by side or inversed, and images float or fuse into each other, tending to gather together or drift away. Sensual dimension is traversed, dissolved and reconstructed. Though these images are realistic, the real world that we live in everyday suddenly seems to be alienated and unfamiliar in this specific scene, however the labyrinthic sense of illusion becomes amiable and familiar. Art is not the mirror image of reality, nevertheless, reality incessantly offers endless possibilities for art expressions. Visual artists’ creativity could ceaselessly provide new vision for audience, not only images visible to the unaided eye, but also those seen through microscope or telescope.

Consisting of oil painting, mirror, installation, projected video and background music, “For the Future” composes a complete art scene with the art center’s building already renovated into the shape of a huge gift box. Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park undertook the task of designing the future pavilion of Shanghai World Expo’s five theme pavilions. With the imminent opening ceremony of Shanghai World Expo, as a peripheral project, this exhibition takes this opportunity to fully express the artist’s creative consideration about the theme of “future being realized”, and the experiences and records of this scene should be presented to the future of all the human beings as a gift in a time capsule.
