by Gallery Magda Danysz (MD Gallery)
Location: 18 Gallery
Date: 28 Sep - 19 Oct 2010

The World Photography presents in an extensive exhibition what photography is about today. As it is held for the first time in Shanghai the exhibition is also accompanied by a festival created by the World Photography Organisation. From 14–16 October the World Photography Festival will host a series of talks and presentations focusing on the emerging photographer and advancing photographic skills.  Also featured within the programme, will be a special portfolio review workshop, led by Chinese and international industry experts. Open to everyone with a passion for photography - professionals, amateurs and students - the Festival is a celebration of the still image, creating a global platform for the photographic industry to debate and learn about current trends in Photojournalism, Fine Art and Commercial Photography. Central to the Festival is the World Photography Exhibition, showcasing the winning images of the 2010 Sony World Photography Awards, the leading competition for international photography.   Especially for Shanghai, the exhibition will also feature a wall of images dedicated to the photographers from China whose work has been awarded or commended within the awards in previous years.

World Photography Exhibition

The World Photography Organisation is exhibiting in Shanghai this year for the first time. Brought together by leading curator Magda Danysz,  the World Photography Exhibition showcases some of the very best photographs from across the world.

In addition, the exhibition will feature a special multi-media piece created for the 2010 World Photography Focus Award: UNICEF, A Photo Pledge for Children’s Rights.
The gallery has established a new benchmark for cultural appreciation in Shanghai. With a reputation for exhibiting contemporary art, new media and photography, Gallery18 creates a platform for local and international artistic exchange.
