Diaspora of Nature
by Elisabeth de Brabant Art Center
Location: Elisabeth de Brabant Art Center
Artist(s): QIAN Gang
Date: 8 Sep - 1 Oct 2012

Qian Gang’s new series of works burst with life and simmer with underlying passion. Creatures, flora and fauna, both real and imagined contain captivating and alluring personas, far from the expected. Qian Gang’s meticulously painted details create worlds where the viewer is drawn into the work, searching for hidden realms, unable to look away. With each viewing more and more of this tiny cosmos is revealed.
QG paintings consist of a uniquely identifiable dialog, exploring the relationship between this world and the surreal, questioning the possibility of these two worlds co-existing and highlighting the complex dualism that they embody. This latest series pushes further towards an inner sanctum to reveal a glorious hyper real universe of animals in exotic environments demonstrating the power and the beauty of nature, of which Qian Gang is so transfixed.

Artist's Statement

In my new series of painting, I am very interested in exploring the relationship between reality and the surreal. I attempt to portray the possibility of these two worlds co-existing and to convey the complex dualism that they embody. Merging these two realms together, I am expressing my desire and praise for life. I have felt an extreme and deep connection to nature since I was a child, and I have always been inspired by the power and the grace that nature presents.
