Center and edge are always relative concept. If we mark out all the location of artists’ studios on a Shanghai map, it is obvious to see that these Shanghai artists are scattered and independent, they have no real center of gathering from a geographical sense. Compare with Beijing and Southwest, they work in a more independent way, knowing enjoy life, keeping low-keyed. As coming from the legacy character of this old and modern city, it turns to be an ordinary living state for artists who live and work in Shanghai. Although some of them work in the edge of this modern city, can’t you say that their studios are the real center of them?

No matter working in a room of dozens square meters or a warehouse of hundreds square meters, artists regard their studio as a private and cryptically “square”. They live around it, think and work, give party and welcome visitors sometimes. All work pieces are landscape of the square. Frankly speaking, visiting studio is much more fun than reading their works sometimes, with odd, stubborn and thankless fragment in the space, all details of their studios tell the vivid and sensitive stories of these artists.
 
There are sixteen Shanghai artists from different age be invited for the exhibition. They show the art works, and the pictures of studios as well——like how we did by using Google map, entering different space by different coordinate. We hope we can open another window for spectators, to  let them know more about the condition of where works were born and the situation where artists live in.
 
Different artists bring their works to the exhibition, to make the space as a provisional square. This will be an interesting document somehow.
