Date: 15 Apr - 14 May 2011

FOIL GALLERY is pleased to announce an exhibition by Kenshu Shintsubo x Akari Hayami "Spring Ephemeral" from 15th April to 14th May, 2011.

This show will be composed of photographic works and sound works. The photographs are from Shintsubo's series of "Fluid / Girl", portraits of Hayami, which Shintsubo first announced at IANN magazine (FOIL) last year. The sound work consists of fragments of extracts from various sounds Shintsubo recorded in the field and so-called environmental sound Hayami recorded in various cities in Tokyo.

Starting from video and sound works of field recording, photographer Kenshu Shintsubo has been working on a subject of "relationship between traces of people's lives piled up on the land and memories of each individuals stored through various media" as his important concern. Recently he has collaborated with various projects, such as documentating memories of people living in Hillside Terrace, Sarugakutyo. Furthermore, his collaboration with pingpong project of Tokyo University Center for Knowledg Structuring announced "Moving Map" project in 2011. In this project, they connected photographic works of Shintsubo put on the walls of public spaces like Shibuya, Shinjuku and other major stations in Tokyo as campain posters, with information on the Internet, such as comments on Twitter, in order to create "map" including live information of people's actual moves, connecting time and place. Shintsubo collaborated Hayami through this project as she was a model of this campaign poster. Since then, they have been collaborating many times as photographer and the model.

In this exhibition, photographic works Shintsubo and Hayami has created through such projects plus newly taken photographs on occasion of Hayami's 16th birthday (17th March, 2011) will be on view. In addition, sounds newly taken for this exhibition will be also presented. During the exhibition period, limited edition book of this "Spring Ephemeral" show will be available at gallery from the end of April.(Designed by Ryoji Tanaka (Semitransparent).
