FOIL GALLERY is pleased to present an exhibition of Shoin Kajii, “HARBIN 2009-2012”. The series shows enormous changes that the city of Harbin went through for the past 3 years. A wave of development arose in the coastal areas has spread to Harbin, which is situated in Northeast China. People who live in designated development areas get forced to move out against their will, and they even lose connections made in the land. In that circumstance, Kajii tried to capture local towns trying to re-born while getting torn down, wondering what those people in the pictures are going to obtain, and lose. This is the touring exhibition of the one held at Yokohama Museum of Art in this fall, which attracted many visitors. The photo book entitled the same as the exhibition is also released by FOIL on this occasion.
