In the Autumn of 1976 the whole mainland was immersed in the "Red mood" and I arrived into this world with a cry, as if I would rather not come. My mother told me, after first feeding, I began to laugh, and ever since, laughing is something that comes naturally to me, even without any reason. For as long as I could remember, the overwhelming red colours, the greens of the nature, the blues and the greys when put together, often inspired me. In those days, the colours were vibrant; they were like dreams to me, maybe even an illusion! The propaganda vans, the marching people, the endless meetings, the red flags, slogans, like waves came one after another, carrying the dreams in people's hearts.
These iconic images and symbolic colours still continue to leave a strong impression in my mind and heart, inspiring me to create a personal interpretation based upon my childhood experiences and memories.
The caricatures in my paintings have been deliberately portrayed with exaggerated features to create a sense of meaningful purpose and are representative, upon reflection, of how I perceived those around me during those early years. As a child I can still remember how everyone would listen attentively, almost entranced; sometimes for hours, to the different speeches and this has left an indelible memory.
