In his picture, the space and time invariably seem to be aimless. Sometimes, we call them “penetrating through walls”; but sometimes the feelings coming from within are so entertaining, like people coming from different walks of life. However, this time, artist Lv Peng elegantly names his works “The Reading Age”, as he himself, walking down the cultural atmosphtere from the curtain of these paintings.

In Lv Peng’s new series of works, “The Reading Age”, we still able to find master of Italian Renaissance, Caravaggio’s dramatic scenes and light. Every piece is just of elegant supremacy, in which we ecounter great spirit and tradition of Chinese landscape paintings. People get their face buried in the book, as if unwilling to wake up in a great dream. Indeed, beauty of the past is as picturesque as dreams.

That is the way of culture —— unable to die in the creation of every single individual——in fresh atmosphere, in texture of delicate touchable skin, enabling a poetic return. Cultural Lv Peng allows the ethereal Renaissance painting and Song landscape painting to incarnate. Though world is always hurting us in one way or another, his paintings soothe viewers’ mind.

Our age is already beyond recognition, but the eternity of culture is reflected at its height in Lv Peng’s new works.

Like Plato's ideal having no reason, and Wittgenstein never talking about the history of art with artists, geniuses always dream up things and art is invariably tangling with the flesh on the bottom of the meaning. Lv Peng’s paintings, at the metaphysical level, have abstracted the time-space into the culture, allowing us to feel the beauty by ourselves.

In 2014, Being 3 Gallery will perfectly present her curtain call with Dr. Lv Peng’s new meticulous brushworks and ink paintings, in the name of “The History”as the annual exhibiton. Everthing is as its own screen, but is also of a great sadness. After all, culture in our age implies the end of a reading era.
