At Rest—The Fifth Exhibition of Chinese Abstract Art will open at PIFO Gallery on June 23rd, 2012.
PIFO’s fifth abstract group exhibition includes works by Chi Qun, Dong Dawei, Huang Jia, Jiang Dahai, Li Tao, Liang Quan, Tan Ping, Wang Chuan, Zhang Xuerui and Zhang Yu.
Though there are comparisons to be made between Chinese abstract art and Western abstraction in aesthetic awareness and tone, these artists have utilized traditional sources to create an abstract art that differs from that in the west. They blend time into their creative process, and similar to the flowing strength of Taichi, the repeated movements eliminate all distractions, thus giving a sense of being ‘at rest’.
To the viewer, intuition is the key to Chinese abstract art: without letting intuition guide the senses, all that can be taken away is what is on the surface. What is left after the forms are stripped away is the essence of the art itself.
Acceptance and awareness of abstract art is still growing within contemporary art circles in China. We hope that through our annual abstract art exhibition, we can provide a space for this. The exhibition will continue until July 31st.
