Fragmented Nostalgia
by M.R.Gallery
Location: M.R.Gallery
Artist(s): CHENG Yuyang
Date: 15 May - 30 Jun 2010

“Fragmented Nostalgia” by Cheng Yuyang reveals oneʼs inner world when waking up from a shattered dream, where the reality is interpreted in the most traditional art application yet with contemporary expressions. Thus, a world is depicted in its reverted black and white, Yin and Yang, in an innovative visual language.

The artist expects to correspond and react to these dreams by collecting the shattered memories, while considering our desire for a thorough interpretation to the illusions. Through an unspoken language beyond region, race, nationality and linguistics, the fragmented nostalgia resonates with each inner being.

This series applies direct imaging with fine quality printing paper and silver gelatin process. Without any negative, duplication is not applicable and only one edition is available for each photograph.

Cheng Yuyany, born in Sichuan Province in 1958, is currently the director of photography at the Beijing Morning Post. He has been journalist for Beijing Daily and Beijing Morning Post since 1990, and has won various prize, notably “Golden Eye Award for Chinese Photojournalists,” “China Annual News Award.” Cheng Yuyangʼs solo exhibition “Numen·Humen” has been carried out in M.R. Gallery in 2009, and the same works are presented in recent international art fairs including Photo Miami and Photo LA.
