Phenobarbital
by Mizuma & One Gallery
Location: Mizuma & One Gallery
Artist(s): ZHENG Jiang
Date: 27 Oct - 25 Nov 2012

Phenobarbital is a barbiturate and the most widely used anticonvulsant as we usually called "sleeping pills", which also has sedative and hypnotic properties. The artist Zheng Jiang continue to use the element of Malus spectabilis glass through which people see everything not very clearly but still has a sense of illusory beauty. Different from his previous artworks, the paintings showcased in this exhibition focus more on artist's inner needs rather than just keep recording his past memories.

Suffered from Insomnia since 2007, Zheng's arts creation is more like an attempts to explore treatments for himself, from insomnia to hypnotics, his process of creation then turn out to be an effective medicine to help him keep calm when facing the anxiety caused by either inner/physical or outer/ social reasons.
