Wang Chuan’s Solo Exhibition “Aloof from the struggle & Aside from the hubbub” will be held from June 5 to June 30 following the snappy and ardent exhibition of "the Fifth A+A" at PIFO New Art Gallery. “Aloof from the struggle & Aside from the hubbub” shows Wang Chuan’s life and creations in recent years: “Aloof from the struggle” is a self-sufficient manner while “Aside from the hubbub” is a larger possibility in art, so as to reflect his uninterrupted exploration in art creation and unique interpretation for abstract painting in 30 years.
Wang Chuan, born in 1953 and graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, is one of the most important artists in China. With the oil on canvas “Farewell!Village Road” and the installation “ink·dot”, Wang Chuan became an important representative of “Scar Art” and “Existentialism Art” in 1980s and 1990s. His art track incarnated a strong aesthetic desire of the young artists at that time.
Artist experienced some new wave of realism such as abstract expressionism and pop art in 30 years, earliest known with painting realistically, orientated from “ink·dot” concept, alternating between ink abstract and oil. They create a formal world with their sentiment. While this formal world doesn’t attempt to compare self-transformation with realistic visual symbol, or to show dissatisfaction with the things around. On the contrary, he is armed with indispensable and omnipotent feelings, creating a self-sufficient universe different from the objective reality by art creation.
The exhibited works are exploratory experiment of Wang Chuan on the "physical writing". In the menu of Wang Chuan’s paintings, lines don’t have the function of hint. Thus, it completely blocks all the link between things and characters for people. This block conveys creative uniqueness of Chinese abstract painting——utilizing sober enthusiasm, formal directness, and emotive contravention which are based on the terse creative process of pure abstract language to find a balance between western straight and Chinese connotation.
“Aloof from the struggle & Aside from the hubbub” is an exhibition of Wang Chuan’s exploration towards abstract art in his recent years, PIFO hopes to find more appropriate international art status and wider developing platform for the most potential Chinese abstract artists through the deep excavation of artists’ value. With the end of Wang Chuan’s solo exhibition, young artist Wu Haizhou’s solo exhibition will be held at PIFO New Art Gallery.
