Mexican Summer
by State-of-the-Arts Gallery
Location: State-of-the-Arts Gallery
Artist(s): Daniel ROMERO, Isabel GARFIAS
Date: 13 Jun - 4 Jul 2011

State-of-the-Arts Gallery is brimming with Mexican culture for our two part special exhibition, Mexican Summer. This exhibition will show the works of 3 highly regarded Mexican artists, Daniel Romero, Isabel Garfias and Lorena Rodriguez. First to feature will be Daniel Romero and Isabel Garfias, from 13th June - 4th July 2011.

Daniel Romero was born in Veracruz City, Mexico and began his study of art at the tender age of 12 in the School of Arts of the City of Veracruz. He continued his study of arts, finally receiving a scholarship for his Artistic Productivity at the Universidad Veracruzana. Since, he has exhibited in various cities in Mexico, America, Japan, Cuba, El Salvador and Hong Kong, as a few examples. His work has been presented in both public and private galleries.

His works combine elements of art history, popular Mexican culture and illustration, coupled with a technique using acrylics and other materials, that together obtain a semblance of old walls depicting contemporary issues.

Isabel Garfias obtained a degree in Graphic Design before completing her Arts education in Mexico and Italy. Since 1996, her work has appeared in a number of public collections as well as exhibitions, both solo and collective, in Mexico, Italy, France and Hong Kong.

Isabel creates abstract forms of traditional Mexican cuisine, using rustic, earthy colourings that highlight her cultural roots, bringing a bit of Mexican spice and flavour to her works.

This exhibition will be an exploration of Mexican culture, with Mexican foods brought by Isabel and iconic imagery by Daniel, both unified by their use of traditional Autumnal Mexican colours.
