Urban Jungle
by State-of-the-Arts Gallery
Location: State-of-the-Arts Gallery
Artist(s): Marti BOFARULL, Cristina BLANCH, Noemí MARTíN, Didier LOURENCO, Joan LONGAS
Date: 1 Mar - 31 Mar 2011

State-of-the-Arts Gallery is delighted to present ‘Urban Jungle,’ a group exhibition by a selection of Spanish artists from 13th – 31st March 2011. The artists featured are Didier Lourenco, Joan Longas, Marti Bofarull, Cristina Blanch and Noemi Martin. This exhibition will also be able to be viewed during ArtWalk on 16th March 2011. This is a charity event in support of the Society for Community Organisation (SoCo). This worthy organisation carries out essential community work in Hong Kong and campaigns for equal rights.

The exhibition ‘Urban Jungle’ sees 5 Spanish artists take the same subject matter – cityscapes – and create entirely unique pieces using their individual style and flair. In so much of the world the natural landscape has been replaced by development, this can either be scorned or accepted as an essential movement for the developing world. Within built up areas, for most of us, we find our homes, culture and modern way of life. As essential pockets of development spring up around us, we embrace our urban jungle.

Didier Lourenco shows Mediterranean style cityscapes with a laidback feel, giving a glimpse into city life while Joan Longas uses photorealistic painting to capture exact scenes with bold precision. Marti Bofarull depicts New York using mixed media to give eye-catching effects that compliment this bustling metropolis. Cristina Blanch creates refined poster-esque images of high-class street scenes while Noemi Martin takes us to rustic Europe with her traditional brush strokes and style. This exhibition shows us that cityscapes capture our imagination in a multitude of ways, and as the word continues developing, provide us with a familiarity that we can’t help but be drawn in by.
