Ink Notes is a contemporary ink painting exhibition that attempts visual and conceptual breakthrough by uniting traditional Chinese ink painting and modern art.
Between the dancing colours of the modern and the simple black and white of the traditional, fourteen artists tease out nature from the narrows of this concrete and glass jungle and present their individual take on contradictions and harmonies between city and nature.
The works in this exhibition incorporate traditional brush techniques, calligraphy, and ink dyeing, and modern methods such as collage, rubbing and installation. Mr. Choi Hoi Ying's bold use of colour newspapers with traditional ink media exemplifies the fusion of the two. Apart from exploring ink art techniques, this exhibition also questions the relationship between the traditional and the modern and the future development of ink art.
Ink Notes is the eleventh exhibition this year under the management of Four-zero-four. Our artists, who make the Artspace becomes part of the community, share their views and concerns to the society through arts and culture. The Shanghai Street Artspace will grow to become a platform for ideas exchange for local artists and our community.
