Improbable Waves - Anicca
by Chi-wen Gallery
Location: Chi-wen Gallery
Artist(s): Jawshing LIOU
Date: 12 Mar - 24 Apr 2011

Chi-Wen Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by U.S.-based video artist Arthur Liou Jaw-Shing: Improbable Waves - Anicca on March 12. The exhibition will present Liou’s two significant video works, including Crossing (2009) and Anicca (2010). Crossing, a part of the Improbable Waves series, is a high definition video piece rendered through 3D modelling procedures. The textures used to simulate realistic ocean movement are based on actual oil paintings. While the production process is a formal exercise of combining painting and animation, the work itself serves as a means for the artist to mourn the passing of his daughter. Anicca is a vertical video that displays a continually ascending spiral form. The textures and shapes change slowly but surely, and its organic qualities evoke nature and seasonal change. The video installation and animation reflect the transitory nature of time and space.

Opening Reception/3.12 (Saturday) 15:00-19:00
