The Age of Phantasmascape
by Keumsan Gallery
Location: Keumsan Gallery
Artist(s): Se-Ra JUNG
Date: 14 Nov - 2 Dec 2012

Keumsan Gallery Seoul is pleased to announce the new exhibition by Se-Ra Jung. In this exhibition 'The Age of Phantasmascape', 20 works which focus on main motives 'passage beyond' and 'glass building'. Unknown passage the artist wants to show is a sealed room with an exit. A blue sky with a flaming sunset gives a feeling of utopia. There is no connection between passage and utopia and no door to escape. The only thing to see is the signal of light on the sky. This room shows a life of people in the modern society. 'Glass building' is a contemporary structure which can project inside, and it looks like open-ended space but it is shut off from the outside world. In recent works, the reason why the artist presents 'glass building' is very obvious. The current world under the internet and SNS(Social Networking Service) pretends to show the truth inside like the building made of glass, but actually expose the people's life that they show something only they want and cover up many facts.

"Windowsill and steel frame of the shadowy glass building under the sunlight present the complicated city at present. This reveals amplectant long passage and corner. A scenery and colour beyond glass is piled up time on a space and make them co-exist. The glass building is a way of 'passage' to pass different timezone to one space. The whole inside and outside remind of a forest of maze. However, this building looks like opened space but actually it is the sealed one like a curtain." by Se-Ra Jung

Most of the objects she uses since late 1990s' are a life and desire of modern people. But as she visualizes our hope and paints a paradise beyond a life, give catharsis to us.
