A Spatial Event - Chi Hu
by Gallery 456
Location: Gallery 456
Date: 7 Nov - 5 Dec 2008

Chi Hu was born in Taipei, Taiwan. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Chi currently lives and works in New York City. His fashion designs have been sold extensively throughout the US in major department stores. From 2006 he started to work on art projects as a different outlet for his perceptions and creativity.

Using Mylar and Plexiglas, Chi Hu created large-scale religious icons which express a remarkable paradox and questions faith, religion and self. The play of life size religious icons reminds us of the life-sized posters in theme parks that allow any kind of face to fill in the cut out space. Being interchangeable, they confront us with the fine line between the signified and signifier.
