Eli Klein Fine Art is pleased to present Chasing Flames, an exhibition that brings together the work of fifteen of China’s most renowned avant garde artists:

• Chen Danqing (陈丹青)
• Feng Zhengjie (俸正杰)
• the Luo Brothers (罗氏兄弟)
• Qin Feng (秦风)
• Xia Xing (夏星)
• Yang Shaobin (杨少斌)
• Zhang Xiaogang (张晓刚)
• Zhou Chunya (周春芽)
• Fang Lijun (方立均)
• Guo Wei (郭伟)
• Qi Zhilong (祁志龙)
• Wang Guangyi (王广义)
• Yang Qian (杨千)
• Zhang Dali (張大力)
• Zhao Nengzhi (赵能智)

The title of the exhibition refers to the booming Contemporary Chinese Art market, which has seen unprecedented growth in recent years and has blazed a trail for contemporary Asian art throughout the world.

The works of these artists span the three-decade history of Chinese contemporary art and reflect the shifts in narrative from the critical art of the’85 New Wave post-Cultural Revolution, to the more sarcastic works of Cynical Realism and Political Pop post-Tiananmen, to the increasingly self-reflective pieces that characterize more recent years as artists respond to profound socio-economic changes, consumerism and globalization, while attempting to define their individuality in a rapidly-changing reality.

The exhibition will be divided into two parts on two floors: paintings will be showcased on the first gallery level and a collection of the artists’ new print productions will be on display in the lower level. This exhibition will be on view at Eli Klein Fine Art from September 17 through November 15, 2009. There will be a private reception and media preview on Wednesday, September 16th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
