I Want to Change You (2009) by YU Ji
300 x 300 cm
Plaster

While the Plaster solidifies, I wear light black, white, or gray colors, because there is a layer of dust. I have an old building in Shanghai that collects a lot of dust the plaster forms are placed exactly in accordance to the above patterns and the floor tiles. I know that creating art is a laborious process When recreating these pieces, I use the same mentality and frame of mind each time: it’s a mental release I can study myself and I can express myself. I maintained a calm, objective point of view, and throughout this piece. But, I also meant to emphasize the feeling of distance between the artist and the audience. I tried to test my own patience by remaining calm under the added pressures.
