PKM Gallery is pleased to announce “Stream, Streaming Persona”, an exhibition showcasing Korean youth culture through an integration of fine art, technology, and fashion.
One’s persona, a social mask or appearance which is presented to the outside world, is constantly edited and evolving within the Internet generation. Social media compels us to read, write, and commit to our personas on a daily basis. The works on view explore this simultaneous on and oine curation of self in the forms of painting, sculpture, film, and digital installations. PKM's representing artists Young Do Jeong and Won Woo Lee present works alongside Maxrelax, a New York based studio and inaugural resident of the New Museum’s NEW INC incubator. Additionally, fashion designer Kathleen Kye, who launched her label KYE in 2011 to critical acclaim, collaborated with Maxrelax to create a multi-screen short film called Like Me Now that explores the theme of irreverence through the dierent perspectives of five kids as they explore Seoul.
The exhibition formally begins with the launch of a dedicated website (STREAMINGPERSONA.COM) that will stream the process of collaboration and creative exchange between the participating artists. This video feed will broadcast a behind-the-scenes look at how the show was put together, while also providing context for the work.
