Location: Misako & Rosen
Artist(s): J. Parker VALENTINE
Date: 15 Jun - 13 Jul 2014

MISAKO & ROSEN is pleased to announce J. Parker Valentine's first solo exhibition in Tokyo, "Node". J. Parker Valentine was born (1980) in Austin, Texas and presently lives between New York and Los Angeles. Valentine's solo exhibition "Topo" is on view at the Langen Foundation, Neuss, Germany through June 29. Additional institutional exhibitions include the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis, The Contemporary, Austin, MAN Museum, Nuoro, Sardinia and the Museo Marini, Florence, as well as a commission-based project with the New Museum, New York. Within Japan, Valentine has exhibited at Taka Ishii Gallery, Kyoto and, most recently at the artist run space, XYZ in the group exhibition "Imprisoned, Jailbreak".

J. Parker Valentine re-introduces elements of narrativity and representation in an advanced manner within the field of contemporary art. Experimenting across a range of media including drawing, sculpture, film and photography, Valentine's artistic production resistantly asserts the value of a specifically aesthetic content. Introductory texts on Valentine's practice by Mary Ceruti (executive director and chief curator of the SculptureCenter, New York) and Suzanne Cotter (director, Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto, Portugal) may be found in the Sternberg Press publication, "Fiction" (2014)
