We are pleased to announce our second presentation of a solo exhibition with Dublin-born, Berlin-based artist Fergus Feehily. Recently, Feehily has participated in group exhibitions at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis and BOZAR - Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels (all 2013). Solo institutional exhibitions of note include The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2009/12) and the Dallas Museum of Art (2010).

Feehily, as evidenced by his inclusion in the group survey exhibition Painter Painter at the Walker Art Center, is a an early practitioner and representative member of a group of artists producing a type of painting which has come to define a - the present - generation's relationship to abstraction. Characterized by a modesty of scale and material as well as a quiet yet defiantly non-ideological stance towards the act of experimentation via painting and looking, this work is both intensely phenomenological and existential. Feehily's choice of exhibition title, to say nothing of the actual work, Floating & Other Metaphors, serves as an apt rejoinder to recently voiced suspicions directed towards such work (suggestions of abstract painting as complicit commercialism) as it suggests a (possibly anxiety inducing) complicated brand of freedom; Feehily's invocation of metaphor importantly calls attention to the relationship between making/looking, language/thought and ultimately points towards the possibility of an ethic of abstraction.
