Artist(s): Manabu HASEGAWA
Date: 4 Nov - 20 Nov 2010
Manabu Hasegawa (b. 1973) was graduated from Department of Painting, Printmaking Course of Tama Art University in 2000. He had won a second place at Kirin Award 2001 and a special award at TARO OKAMOTO Award in 2010.
Manabu concentrates to reproduce the realistic texture of metal and crystals by using pencil and paper. Thus it is a sculpture work that also provides a two-dimensional visual format.
The philosophy of Manabu is rooted to the ancient chronicle of the war in the 12th century, “The Tale of Heike”, that indicates the uncertain fate of livings in this world.
Manabu challenged to himself by creating one thousand of statues of Maria in past just as if he were a monk who believes in the power of art. Throughout the experience, he achieved a sense of fact that makes an object more realistic than how they are seen in reality.
For the coming show “Yashima”, Manabu is going to exhibit new works together with a traditional Shamisen concert at the reception on 4th of November.
