Mitsuru Takeya (b.1980) is a self-taught artist who suddenly started drawing and painting in 2003 and presenting his works at GEISAI, the biggest art show in Japan. His first solo exhibition was held at MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY in 2009 that gave an extraordinary sensation to visitors with numerous numbers of drawings that covered the walls of gallery. Mitsuru’s works attract lots of people at the recent art fairs in Miami, Chicago, Basel and Taegu too.
The theme for this exhibition is “designing monsters” that is as Mitsuru explained below;
“Firstly, I design a character of monster. Then I find suitable colors for it. Then I think a nice background for it. That how I process my painting. And it seems that my works become look like a visual of video game. I think I admire monster designs and video game creations very much.”
There are going to be about 30 new paintings and more than 100 water color drawings installed for the show. Mitsuru is naturally free from any authorized ideas, but he is urged to keep painting by a strong and genuine impulse that comes out from inside of him. Please find the healthy and pure aesthetic proposed by Mitsuru at “Seaside of Mosquito” starting from 14 September 2010.
