Mayuko Fujino (b.1979) works on paper cut outs along to the story that she imagines and writes by her-self. Fujino said that making stories is a practical mean to relief emotions that are too painful or too outrageous for a person to digest inside of him/ her, and leave them behind. It is Fujinoʼs unique technique to cut out Japanese paper and collage the scraps of magazines and advertisement that she daily collects, on back of the paper.
The theme of “Arikui abduction” is about “cross-boundary” and “forgiveness”. The retro- Sci-Fi pop style colors and organic shape of the cut outs takes us to a unique world of fantasy.
The story of “Arikui abduction” starts when “arikui” (ant-eater in Japanese) starts biped walking by developing the advanced artificial intelligence. The new arikui starts exploring a planet where “ant-man” from the ancient time thrives. Arikui tries to invade the planet and capture ant-man in order to examine a secret of their biology. However what arikui experiences there is a catastrophe goes over the planet and spectacular rebirth of the ant-manʼs community....
Fujino expresses about our society where various boarders are built in a complex structure and people who are stressed being opposed each other by playing her humorous characters.“
