Artist(s): Kengo NAKAMURA
Date: 11 May - 5 Jun 2010
Kengo Nakamura was graduated MA Japanese Painting Course, Tama Art University in 1995.
Kengo applies our familiar subjects such as floor plans of studio flats, “Re:” as mobile phone textsʼ titles, speech balloons of comic books into his Japanese painting based works.
In spite of the figurative motifs and pop cultural expressions, his works are highly conceptual that represent groups of people living in the age of the complex culture. The paintings also offer us the genuine aesthetics that are skillfully painted in a classic way.
One of the features of the exhibition this time is new pieces of “Without me”, a series of allover painting with decorative lines of numbers of side characters from *Tezukaʼs comic books. The works describe our ignorance towards the others as the drawn people recognize each other just as a confused background of their individual worlds.
Please enjoy visitng Kengo Nakamuraʼs solo show “Without me” at MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY.
*Osamu Tezuka (1928- 1989) is a post-war leading Japanese manga artist who is also called “Godfather of Anime”.
