For Gillie and Marc Schattner, it was love at first sight. Having met on a photo shoot in Hong Kong, the two were married within seven days, and have been together 20 years since. Discovering that they had very similar styles of artistic expression that had mingled with each other over their years together, the couple decided to create a piece together in tribute to a mutual friend. What followed, was an artistic and autobiographical journey that radiated not only innovation and creativity but also the warmth and affection between the artists themselves.

The art of Gillie & Marc is often a tribute to the relation between animals and man. Depicting human- animal hybrids and their interactions with other animals is a style that comments on the connection between the two and how neither is totally bereft of the other. The animals are also autobiographical, with the dog representing Marc and the rabbit representing Gillie-2 animals that are completely different and unlikely life partners, but who are in love and happily together. The stances depicted are also reflective of the couple as the characters are often seen holding cameras or sitting on a Vespa- symbols of their love for travel and adventure.

Stylistically, their sculpted forms are highly detailed and show representational skill over both animal and human from. Brushing traces of surrealism, their hybrid forms reflect a contemporary transmutation of classical subjects, combining reflections of traditional representations with stark elements of abstract interpretation. Their paintings are intriguing in subject and often contain splashes of color that imbue it with a distinctive grain. The deliberate addition of refreshing innovation is a core value of this artistic couple, and as they have themselves stated.
