Landscapes and Life: The Art of Ronnie Ford, opens at Ode to Art Raffles City on 8 November 2012 at 7pm. This is the Scottish artist Ronnie Ford's first solo exhibition in Singapore, and it features a breathtaking range of his paintings inspired by natural landscapes from all around the world. The bucolic fields and azure seas of Ford's paintings embody a nuanced spectrum of human emotions, which are made evident through his sharp intuition for colour and perspective.
Ford graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1974, and went on to teach art in Scotland, England, Germany and Hong Kong for the next 28 years. During this time he continued to paint, and found success staging exhibitions in these countries due to his distinctive and evocative style. Ford's paintings have become easily recognisable for their highly textured quality and the application of discordant colours that paradoxically blend together to create harmonious compositions.
As Ford has said of his artist vision: "My landscapes take the viewer on a journey – a journey which captures the essence, rather than a representation, of the scene. Nature never ceases to amaze with her subtlety and vibrancy, her density and variety of texture, her attention to detail, her sense of space." Indeed, his exquisite paintings prove that he has been tremendously successful in evoking the multifarious qualities of nature, which are manifested in different places and at different times.
Ode to Art is delighted to share Ronnie Ford's wonderful works with you this November, and we hope that this exhibition will offer insight into how this exceptional artist has lent a fresh and riveting twist to the genre of landscape painting. Ford's vision of untained beauty in trees, pastures and lakes taps into the deepest recesses of our souls, and summons an appreciation for nature that is universal.
