Public Talk: Conceptual Art, the print and the multiple - by Tony Godfrey
by STPI Location: Singapore Tyler Print Institute
Date: 22 May - 17 Jul 2010
Conceptual Art was an attack on our normal notions of what art should be. But it did this in the name of accessibility and sought a larger audience than abstract painting could claim. Therefore prints, multiples and artist's books were a way of presenting their new notions of art to a wider public. The magazine Parkett has been commissioning and publishing artists' prints and multiples for 25 years.
In this talk, Tony Godfrey, Programme Director of the MA in Contemporary Art at the Sotheby's Institute and author of many pbulications on contemporary art, including Conceptual Art (1998) and Painting Today (2009), both pbulished by Phaidon, will explore the way the Parkett editions have built on the project of earlier conceptual art.
