STPI kicks off the New Year with a collaborative exhibition with New York-based gallery Lehmann Maupin. Showcasing the best in contemporary art, Lehmann Maupin has successfully cultivated, the careers of many international, visionary artists, including Teresita Fernández, Do Ho Suh and Ashley Bickerton, three artists who had also participated in residencies atSTPI. This exhibition promises to be a dynamic endeavor and will be the zenith of the most exciting art week in Singapore together with Art Stage!
Teresita Fernández is a conceptual artist best known for her prominent public sculptures and unconventional use of materials. Fernández’s work is characterised by an interest in perception and the psychology of looking. Her experiential, large-scale works are often inspired by landscape and naturalphenomena as well as diverse historical and cultural references.
Interested in the malleability of space in both its physical and metaphorical manifestations, Do Ho Suh constructs site-specific installations that question the boundaries of identity. His work explores the relation between individuality, collectivity, and anonymity.
A seminal figure in New York’s East Village scene, Ashley Bickerton was one of the original members of the group of artists that became known as “Neo-Geo,” and remains an influential figure with a younger generation of artists.
Considered a leading Korean artist of her generation, Lee Bul has achieved internationalrenown for her formally inventive, intellectually provocative oeuvre. Demonstrating virtuosity across diverse media – from drawing and performance to sculpture, painting, installation, and video – her multifaceted production is representative of the most innovative aesthetic currents shaping contemporary art in the global sphere. Lee Bul will be coming in for STPI residency in 2013.
