Tristian Koenig is delighted to present Europa by Dunedin-born, Melbourne-based artist Rebecca Agnew. Europa, Agnew's second solo exhibition with the gallery, will take the form of a single-channel stop-motion video and suite of sculptural figures.
The people of Europa are having trouble connecting. While they wait for a Saviour, they start to wonder - why all the mysterious deaths, why all the missing people? In this stop-motion film Agnew explores human transaction, our therapies and vices, and the need to make connections and construct meaning in the face of atrocity and horror. Agnew's androgynous, futuristic characters reveal obsession, exploitation and the darker side of higher consciousness, exposing limitations and vulnerability in the games people play.
