Viewing the Floating World
by K. Gallery
Location: K. Gallery
Artist(s): PANG Maokun
Date: 26 Oct - 6 Nov 2013

“Viewing the Floating World – Pang Maokun’s Art”, after being held at the National Art Museum of China on July 21, 2013, will be held again at K. Gallery in Chengdu. Pang Maokun’s new works of 2013 which are carefully selected from the Beijing exhibition will be exhibited this time. The exhibition is organized by K. Gallery and co-organized by Sichuan Jianfeng Culture Industry Co., Ltd. and Chengdu Jiuyi Investment Management Co., Ltd. Yin Shuangxi, the famous critic is the curator of the exhibition while Yang Kai acts as the exhibition Director.

Pang Maokun is one of the few artists who insist on searching for the possibilities of classical oil painting language in the context of contemporary Chinese culture. He is also an artist who spontaneously associates his art with the current social reality. His artistic path told us that art should not be observed just from the inside. It is in the wave of social revolution, reflecting the spirit of this era. This exhibition will present the new feature of Pang Maokun’s art. Currently, Pang intends to interpret his thinking on social reality and his experience of daily life in a sort of surreal way that is full of absurdity and spirited senses. He redefines his own understanding of culture while he relocates the people and space of real life onto the canvas.

This Exhibition is titled “View the Floating World”. It shows the current status of Pang Moskun’s art and emphasizes the brand new angle which he chooses to represent reality, i.e. to directly depict everyday scenes without the drama effecting on his previous works. This demonstrates the artist’s deconstruction of everyday scenes and subjective reconstruction of images. In a colorful space created by the artist, we “travel” with him into a seemingly familiar scene of our daily life and have a dream-like experience. In his works, Pang Maokun speaks in a calm voice: This is our life that worth living.
