Silk Highway 21C
by Yallay Space
Location: Yallay Space
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 8 Nov - 30 Nov 2013

The Silk Highway 21C curated by Brahim Allaoui, presents a selection of contemporary Arab artists including: Halim Al Karim (Iraq), Mahmud Al Obaidi (Iraq), Zoulikha Bouabdellah (Algeria), Ali Chirri (Lebanon), Mohamed El Baz (Morocco), Mounir Fatmi (Morocco), Youssef Nabil (Egypt) and Faisal Samra (Saudi Arabia).

The changes that have occurred in Asia and the Middle East since the coming of the era of globalization have contributed to the emergence of vibrant arts scenes that have changed the geography of art and which today are trying to create new bridges between each other. Contemporary Arab artists are participating in this by taking up an aesthetic of communication or through practicing cultural nomadism. Together, they are exploring new territories, confronting alterity and participating in the emergence of a modernity of multiple and universal resonances.
