Date: 17 Nov - 22 Dec 2012
Chikako Yamashiro was born in Okinawa. As a contemporary artist and video artist, she has based her works in Okinawa on the themes of Okinawan history and its locality. Through images and photographs she expresses the memories and the pains of that history and the tensions between then and now. In this exhibition, Yamashiro's new photo works expressing her thoughts on "flesh" are presented. These works are based on images of pieces of flesh which she conceived before producing "Choros of the Melodies" in 2010. Her expression has explored further inside bodies this time. It is the basis of her new film "A Butcher Woman" to be featured simultaneously at the Mori Art Museum in "MAM Project 018 YAMASHIRO CHIKAKO".
