100 Tonson Gallery and the Japan Foundation proudly present “What a Place Tells Us” photography and site-specific exhibition by Tomoko Yoneda and Yoshihiro Suda, curated by Yuka Uematsu, Curator, the National Museum of Art, Osaka, Japan.  

Participated in Bangladesh Biennale 2008, “What a Place Tells Us” travels to Bangkok with the outstanding photography works by Tomoko Yoneda, talking about history and climate conditions of Bangladesh, while Yoshihiro Suda makes small sculptures out of wood to create site- installation.

How many things do we overlook in everyday life?  There are many things that we look at without really noticing, and we are often too busy to even look at the things around us.  In this exhibition, both artists will show works in which the place speaks to us.  Yoneda’s photographs and Suda’s sculptural installations differ in materials and technique, but the art of both artists invites viewers to pay attention to the existence of objects and places that are seen without clear awareness.  The places shown in Yoneda’s photographs and the exhibition space revealed in Suda’s work are different kinds of places, but viewers can have a more meaningful dialogue with their work by becoming aware of place.
