Xu Jianguo: Metropolis Reimagined, an exhibition of the work of Chinese artist Xu Jianguo or Da Diaozi (‘Hue-Catcher’), follows the artist’s recent solo exhibition at the National Museum, Beijing in October 2013 and at the China Pavilion of the 2010 Shanghai Expo, and presents over 20 works depicting Hong Kong, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Combining contemporary perspectives with classical format and aesthetics, the works are reminiscent of the Chinese court paintings of the Southern Song dynasty. This groundbreaking series deconstructs the boundaries between past and present, tradition and evolution, reviving the classic as contemporary.
