Texture
by YY9 Gallery
Location: YY9 Gallery
Artist(s): Norman de BRACKINGHE
Date: 10 Sep - 15 Oct 2010

YY9 Gallery is pleased to present ‘Texture’ a new series of photographs by Norman de Brackinghe. In this exhibition Norman explores how texture can be more than the simple appearance of a surface. His new work brings the viewer close up to the subject and whilst still being abstract the images are essentially photographic.

He is drawn to subtle colours on one hand and to extreme contrast on the other. They are always out there to be found by accident or design and above all modified by nature.

Norman de Bracking is from a family steeped in the Graphic Arts. As the director of an international publishing company in Hong Kong, he was involved in both the technical and aesthetic interpretation of printed images. His paintings are landscapes but his photography is inspired by abstraction. He has lived in Hong Kong since 1976. During this time he has produced regular solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. He remains active in furthering artistic endeavour and good design in Hong Kong.

“In many ways the major influences on my photography have come from the painters that I admired. I love the emotional freedom offered by abstraction. More recently I have turned towards my fascination with textures and patterns.”
– Norman de Brackinghe
