YY9 Gallery is pleased to present “Of Other Space” – a solo exhibition by Arthur Chan. In this exhibition, Chan will present his latest series of artworks which creates a new perception of space via the deconstruction of cityscape architecture and the transformation of such into installation art pieces and sculptures. Not only does he attempt to resonate with the audience, Chan also tries to stimulate individual interpretation and reaction via his artworks.

Traces of the city, together with its substance, are to be found in virtually every facet of our daily life. Nonetheless, they are commonly seen and are thus tended to be neglected. Featuring unique shapes, the outlines of skyscrapers against the sky, streets, back lanes as well as open spaces form indeed peculiar silhouettes of the city where we live. By transforming these images into pictorial representations and creating various compositions, Chan manages to form a metaphor of the hidden memory that defines the soul of our city.

This is a deconstruction process of phenomenon of the city which eventually generates a brand-new perception of space in a poetic way.
