The artist Nannar (Hyun-Joo, Choi) has focused on a relationship between a daily life and arts, and asked an essential question for overall the arts since the project 'Extension of Eyes:Same bed, different dreams, Inc' in 2011.
The interesting point among her works is that the artist is not a main agent, but people working for her. Her works are mostly showing on canvas, and as the artist records a process in photo and writing, whole process is actually performed by the artist within a context of art.
She doesn't pursue a beauty in terms of traditional meaning, but thinks that 'community art' also can be 'one art piece'. She points out some important problems for existing art concepts.
First is that 'What is artwork?' To the public having a lack of information for contemporary art, art is still defined as 'beautiful objet.' The artist doesn't follow traditional concept of beauty but tries to find a mutual junction between her work and a view of audience, and this became the theme 'Same bed, different dreams.' As the artist connects 'art' to 'attaching the eyes', participants can earn the money and she can complete her work. And this is to find an essential meaning and place of the arts.
Second question is about the artist's participation in work and a value of it. Many contemporary artist finish works assisted by others, so that Nannar brings what the role and value of the artist are into question.
Last point the artist wants to show is that adopting social concept, 'incorporation', into the artist one, as Andy Warhol reflected artwork on a concept of production under the name of 'factory'. Through this work, Nannar crosses her ideal art and a territory of daily with her imagination.
Beyond a limit of art, such as the arts restricts its logic or becomes a purpose of economy, she provides a chance to enjoy and think for everyone, which is a meaningful progress for the concept and social rule of the arts.
