Location: CyArt Gallery
Artist(s): BOO Ji Hyun
Date: 19 Mar - 1 Apr 2013

In her works, many objects a fisherman has used, such as a fishing lamp or a boat, can be found. This is because she has lived in Jeju island, so that she impressed with sea view and fishing supplies. And she also realized a life of fisherman is not romantic after talking to them. A time for fight with storm or cold, and abandoned broken-down boats and other equipments on sand might be hidden on the other side of peaceful beach. The artist has made a beautiful and fantastical space, like storing used fishing lamps on the corner or these escaped from the shabby boat. In another work, she arranged them in good order, and the blue lights from them made such a meditation space.
However, if you look at her works closer, blue lights are not from the fishing lamps, but artificial LED lightings and waste equipments can be found plainly. It means a gap between visual and existing realities can be farther than expected. The artist made the noble place using symbolic materials to give an allegory for modern people through facing with conflictual situation at the boundary between illusion and reality.
