In the shadow of the mountains by Nathalie Savey
by Gallery Lux
Location: Gallery Lux
Date: 23 Oct - 4 Nov 2013

Gallery Lux is delightful to introduce new photo exhibition by Natalie Savey.
Savey uses traditional photo printing as taking a photo of natural scenery. She thinks that the nature is a big freedom. For work, she seeks winds, light, rock, water and shade, and finds a depth of horizontal among them. And then, she drags the audience's inner experience from it. She photographed the natural sceneries in Korea while she was joining National Art Studio.
This exhibition will show black and white photos and film 'Two Faces'. In the changing moment of photograph according to an expansion of digital technology, the natural scenes printed in the traditional way will provide a feeling of warm and beautiful nature.

I was in a residence for artists at Goyang – South Korea from September to November 2012, organised in the framework of the partnership betwen CEAAC ( Centre Européan Artistic Contemporary – Strasbourg France) and the International Art Studio Korea (IASK) of the National Museum of Contempary Art of Seoul. I present fifteen photographs in black and white format 47 x 47 cm, a video entitled Two faces and you can listen to audio postcard that I made.
These photographs were taken in the park Buckhansan in Mountain Gyerongsan and near waterfalls on the island of Jeju. I feel in nature much freedom as if it is a workshop, it is an exchange and walking is my means to create. My elements are wind, light, stones, water and shadows. I search for the distant horizon though the elements, that are close to my sight. It is as if the notion of immensity is an intimate expéience. I was attracted long time ago by the art of the Far East. I went to South Korea, nourished by the reading of Augustine Berque, Françis Cheng, Roger Caillois, Gaston Bachelard, Alain Roger, Michel Collot, Philippe Jaccottet, Junichiro Tanizaki, Gao Yi Mungyol, Hwang Sok-Yong and a journey made in 2005 in Japan.
From my experience of walking in the mountains, I found an echo of what I feel in nature, the link between heaven and earth that man establishes. In the shadow of the mountains, I felt, by looking at the wind which vibrated the light on the water in the river. In the shadow of the mountains, I looked for the horizon in me, I found it by looking at stones and the mouvement of water, imagining horizons and immensity landscapes. The world is big and choosing a point of view is my way to slip into the world. It unfolds, unfolds in other invisible geographies imagined taken in the dazzle.
