Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac has taken part in Frieze New York from the very beginning. It is with great pleasure that they will be participating in its third edition, to be held from May 8 to 12, 2014.
On this occasion they are happy to show a famous portrait of Joseph Beuys by Andy Warhol, both iconic and fundamental figures of the art world's transformation today. They knew each other and shared a mutual esteem for each other's work. This painting dates from 1980, the year Warhol made his first portrait painting of Beuys. It is also the year of their first joint exhibition in Naples.
“Zero Ende” by Georg Baselitz is his most recent bronze sculpture. It is part of an impressive series of six large scale sculptures titled “The Dark Side”. It will be part of Baselitz’s solo exhibition in the “Haus der Kunst”, Munich, next fall. They will also present “Und so varmed loch” a painting in homage of Edward Munch. It depicts in a very forceful way delirious figures, inspired by Gorgon masks, with a water-like fluidity with a burst of pure red. There are two must-see exhibitions of Baselitz's work currently showing in London, at the Royal Academy of Arts and at the British Museum.
An extraordinary large-scale charcoal drawing of a Falcon's head by Robert Longo along with a selection of studies of emblematic images such as a warplane and a beautifully detailed study of the West wall will also be on view.
Furthermore, they will include a series of watercolours by Yan Pei Ming, who is about to open an exhibition at the Beijing Centre for the Arts on May 18, as well as a large-scale artwork by Jack Pierson and some recent paintings by the British painter, Jason Martin.
