Moving away from the nostalgia-tinged sepia paintings of his early career, Filipino artist Pedro Felix Garcia II now enters a world of vibrant colour, toys, and music, precipitated in no small part by the birth of his first child. His daughter has brought his household into a world of fancy – of the fables and fairy tales that are told, and the nursery rhymes or lullabies that are sung. Storybook illustrations have been a great source of inspiration for this series, as well as Pedro’s own childhood memories of Little Red Riding Hood and Alice in Wonderland. His re-imaginings of evergreen stories connect us to a familiar world that we once inhabited, bestowed with Pedro’s own air of mystery with its unknowable denizens and indecipherable text.
