This is Marvin Chew's second solo exhibition, which aims at capturing Singapore's obsession with food and its unique 'makan' culture in his impressionic watercolour style, depicting the mood and atmosphere in local kopitiams, markets, food centers, pasar malams, cafés, and restaurants, as well as presenting vignettes of human interactions in these eateries. The majority of Marvin’s works are done on location, highlighting the artist’s excellent grasp of the medium.
Born in Kuching, Malaysia in 1975, Marvin Chew is now a Singapore Permanent Resident who paints full-time. As the current Vice President of the Singapore Watercolor Society, Marvin is actively involved in many local/international exhibitions and competitions. A naturalist, he is often seen sketching and painting en plein air. His works are collected by numerous private and corporate clients, as well as government bodies, most notably by China’s Minitry of Culture, acquired when he represented Singapore in the ASEAN-China Youth Artists Workshop and Exhibition in 2013.
