Brass with basalt base
Since 1990 the artist has traveled repeatedly to North Africa, mainly Morocco.
The artist says: “The North African, Mediterranean world has given a new dimension to my way of seeing an unfamiliar world, yet seeping into my conscience being. My works reflect the unfamiliar, yet are also familiar.
My heads have no eyes, so one cannot look into their eyes, their soul, but they are not blind, instead convey life and dignity. They have -what real heads seldom have- Balance!
Individual elements of the works relate to different cultural cycles: “Ceremonial beards of Egyptian Pharos, the back of the head of classic Greek solders, the long necks of middle African wood sculptures, and the posture of rural African women.“
Juergen Friede’s works are found private and corporate collections, and commissioned works in public spaces. The artist has participated in both solo and group shows throughout Germany.
