An Elegant Women (2002) by HA Bik Chuen
117 x 43 x 28 cm
Mixed media

Dare to experiment, brave to recreate, are my beliefs in innovation and creativity. My explorative spirit has also led me into the realms of the art world for more than 40 years. Looking at things from a photographic angle has broadened my vision and enriched my pool of inspiration. As to the application of raw material to artworks, I am now at a stage of being able to freely transform the superficiality of the found objects into images of intrinsic value. I often scavenge bits and pieces of cast-off items and turn them into major element in my art form. I regard that rather magical approach in my junks-cum-art exercises.

My creativity and innovation overflows in recent years like volcanic outbreak despite my old age. In fact, I still maintain a young attitude at heart and try to enjoy the freedom of being energetic in creating, keen to observe, and responding to the unfathomable universe’s magical power. I never confine myself to certain art media. From sculpture, prints, photographs and ink paintings, I produce with my spirit of exploration. My experimentation in Chinese ink in the recent years has broken new grounds. The trial and error process has rewarded me with new figure and ground composition and techniques. I began to understand myself far more in the past via the play with ink and brushes.
